COVID-19 Policies & Services


Fall 2020 COVID-19 Changes

We have made some changes to our building and services for Fall 2020 to meet COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and best practices.

We hope these changes will keep our community safe while still providing the full range of library services to all SAU students, faculty and staff.

General Library Services during COVID-19

No Food in the Library

No eating in the library during Fall semester, including in the quiet rooms and conference rooms.  Drinks are still allowed.  Sacred Grounds is open regular hours Fall semester.

Library Hours

The library's building hours have been reduced to allow staff extra time to clean and disinfect the building.  Chat with a Librarian online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to get help with finding books and articles, research strategies, and APA or MLA citation questions.

Library Seating

Library seating has been moved or removed to encourage social distancing.  Tables and study spaces are available on each floor of the library.  Please see a library staff member if you need assistance finding a study space.

Conference Rooms & Quiet Study Rooms

Conference rooms and quiet study rooms will be cleaned after each use.  Room may be unavailable for a short time after use to give staff time to disinfect the room.  Seating capacities for the rooms have been lowered to encourage social distancing.  Conference room seating: 6 people per room maximum.   Quiet study rooms: 2 people per room maximum.

Returning books and overdue notices

The American Library Association and the Centers for Disease Control recommend putting library material in a quarantine area for a short time as the most effective method of disinfecting library materials.  Items returned to the library will be put in quarantine for 5 days before being processed.  Items you have returned will remain on your library account for those 5 days.  Any fines or fees incurred during quarantine will be removed from your account after the 5-day period.  

****If you receive an overdue notice for a book you have returned, the item may still be in quarantine and not yet processed.  Please wait 5 days and then check your library account.****

Students taking classes online and who do not live within driving distance of SAU may request a prepaid return shipping label.

Headphones, charges, and other equipment

Headphones are not available Fall semester.  Chargers, adapters, and other tech/equipment may be available on a limited basis.  Following ALA and CDC guidelines for disinfecting library materials, these items will be put into quarantine for short time after each use.

Workroom Services during COVID-19

Workroom Services

The Workroom, located on the lower level of the library, is closed to walk-ins this semester.  All services are still available by appointment or fill out a Workroom Project Order Form to have your project completed by Workroom staff. 

Puppets and Manipulatives

Due to the difficulties in cleaning and sanitizing these items, puppets and manipulatives are not available for check-out Fall semester.
